The town of West Yellowstone, is great, not just from an off-roaders standpoint. This is a Gateway community to Yellowstone National Park, W. Yellowstone is a very popular entry point into the Yellowstone National Park so the area is very tourist oriented! You have access to a lot of great shops and restaurants. Also, It’s very busy community!

Several Blocks of Downtown W. Yellowstone contain many restaurants and other attractions! [/caption]
This makes for one of the best starting points for your off-roading adventure. There is so much to do, besides Yellowstone National Park, in this community.
As far as off-roading, W. Yellowstone is extremely OHV friendly, you have direct access from the west side of the town to the trails and you're able to ride most streets and alleys to get to services, such as fuel and restaurants, which are in abundance here. Lots of tasty food options.
A couple side notes, while here staying at the KOA west of town, Trail access is available via a “trail” (if you can call it that) along US Hwy 20. Really, you are riding the ditches to get to the trail, this is one of the first times I have ever encountered a situation like this. This is not ideal due to the amount of traffic on the highway and crossing takes some time. I’m sure there are times that are less busy, just be aware of this.

Coming into town from the trail… [/caption]
If you have children, this is a great town to stay with your OHV, but Island Park, Idaho may be a better option as it’s more centrally located among the trails in the area!

Conclusion…
To the east of the community is Yellowstone National Park, for which, there is absolutely no OHV traffic allowed, your only option is to get west, I would suggest purchasing an Idaho OHV sticker as well, In addition to Montana. You will be traveling in both states due to the proximity of each other and lack of trails in this area of Montana. I went from W. Yellowstone, Montana to Island Park, Idaho for my ride while in the area. There are so many more trails and intersections in Idaho.
West Yellowstone should be a bucket-list area to stay for an incredible adventure, especially if you have children. There is such a wide variety of things to do, you could stay busy for weeks, from off-roading to White water rafting to visiting Yellowstone and Teton National Parks and more! Just Epic!
