How I tie down (secure) UTV for transport

In the recent past, as in, beginning of last year lol, I started to research strapping down a UTV to a trailer for transport. I was not satisfied with using the typical straps that most people think of when “strapping down their UTVs”. They weaken over time, become loose while driving long distances, ect.

Also, I needed the ability to anchor from further away from the machine, so that when applying the strapping, it would not compress the suspension.

So through my searching and help from relatives, I came up with what you see here…

Item one: Axle Straps…

I used polyester axles straps to go around my rock guards on the side of the machine to anchor the chains to, Two on each side. Keeps from scratching the paint.

Item two: Small Chains…

I used a fairly small chain, rated for 8000 lbs, lbs. I believe. Much more durable than the straps.

Item three: Load Binders with compression springs…

Here is a load binder that has a built in compression spring. Let me tell you, it does work, even though the compression springs are small, they do give with the weight and motions of the utv. Also they do not compress the suspension much due to the straps having more of a horizontal position. Well worth the costs!

Item four: Wrap-it Heavy Duty Storage Straps…

I use these for added security on the Binders themselves, to keep them from opening. Not that they would, It’s just peace of mind for me knowing it’s done right.

So, with all that. I have have had no issues what so ever with loosening of the binder, They stayed exactly how I left it all the way to Wyoming! Very Happy with how it turned out!
