This journey through the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, started at the Montana border, Working my way south toward the Island Park area.
These trails are in much better condition than the Montana Trails. This time, I’m neutral about this, Because the trails in Montana are far more rugged and beautiful. Don’t take this the wrong way, Idaho Is still Beautiful, but I liked Montana side much better.
The problem is, there is not the number of trails in Montana, as there is in Idaho. Idaho seems to be the spot to be in due to the number of trails, you have a lot of options here!

Island Park Area…
When I do go back to this area, I will for sure be staying in the Island Park area. It’s more centrally located on the trail system. I just didn’t have time to go further south on the trail system due to the travel time back to my camp in West Yellowstone.

There are plenty of things to do in the small community, Food, and fuel stations. If you have children, I would highly recommend staying in the West Yellowstone, Montana area due to the proximity to Yellowstone National Park and a huge number of things to do in that community!
Island Park area defiantly seems to be more orientated toward OHV.
